Prof. Paulo Monteiro is a Professor of the Graduate School in Civil and Environmental Engineering at U.C. Berkeley. He has published over 300 archival papers, and he co-authored a comprehensive textbook on concrete that is widely used and has been translated into Japanese, Chinese, Greek, Spanish, Portuguese, and Persian. He has been elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and has received the following awards for this research: Stephen Brunauer Award (twice), Premio Ari Torres, and Wa-son Medal for Materials Research.

Monteiro’s research focuses on concrete behavior and structural materials. He was elected to the prestigious National Academy of Engineering in 2020 for his contributions to the science and nanotechnology of concrete for sustainable construction and durable structures. Monteiro also co-authored a book, Concrete: Microstructure, Properties, and Materials, in 2014.
