Cal Seismic Takes Second Place at National Design Competition

This year, UC Berkeley's Cal Seismic Design team gathered virtually to compete at the annual Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) Seismic Design Competition. EERI's SDC promotes earthquake engineering among undergraduates through the innovative design, analysis, and construction of a wooden building model able to withstand challenging design criteria and constraints.

This year, competition took a different format tasking teams with 4 deliverables including topics in geotech, structural, architectural/environmental, and retrofitting. Despite the virtual meetings, the Cal Seismic team successfully learned and enjoyed the year together. Cal Seismic ranked 2nd overall, out of 36 teams representing 10 countries and 12 US states, including Puerto Rico!

We are proud of Cal Seismic for showing the true definition of teamwork and family! Go Bears!
