Professor Kara Nelson was one of 88 recipients of a $100K 5-year grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for unusual research, including a new category for the program: sanitation.
The 88 projects announced Thursday were selected from more than 2,500 proposals from about 100 countries.
