Systems PhD Candidate Creates Site to Help Fellow Students

Featured Faculty: Raja Sengupta

Alex Mead, Civil Systems PhD candidate, created CEEphotos.com to help civil engineering undergraduates, and others, gain access to real world examples of civil engineering concepts.

"I started CEEphotos.com because I remembered that many of my fellow undergraduate students didn’t know of real world examples that illustrated the concepts we were studying in the classroom," says Alex. "I decided to document examples of classic civil engineering concepts and put them online."

CEEphotos.com is a reference tool for professional civil engineers, civil engineering students, and lay people. Anyone can submit a photo and a description for posting. Alex reviews submissions and displays those that best represent a particular theory.

Alex's research focus is transportation and economics, in particular, how technology, specifically smart phones and Internet-based systems, can be used to encourage people to drive less. His advisor is CEE Professor Raja Sengupta.
