Professor Alex Bayen Weighs in on L.A.'s Waze Problem

Featured Faculty: Alexandre M. Bayen

Professor Alexandre M. Bayen was recently interviewed by Larry Mantle on the radio show AirTalk. Larry interviewed Professor Bayen along with Paul Krekorian, Los Angeles City Councilmember who introduced the motion to study the negative impact of Waze directing traffic in neighborhoods.

Residents of neighborhoods like Silver Lake or Echo Park are frustrated that their once quiet residential streets are now lined with traffic during rush hour due to Waze and their crowdsourced data that determines which streets are busy and redirects drivers accordingly.

The City of Los Angeles, after hearing from residents of impacted neighborhoods for months voted to approve a pilot program to redirect traffic from smaller residential streets. Listen to the interview on AirTalk.
