Cal Steel Bridge Team Places in AISC National Competition

Despite many challenges of the last year, UC Berkeley's Cal Steel team came together virtually and in-person to compete in the annual American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Student Steel Bridge Competition. AISC's Student Steel Bridge Competition challenges teams to develop a scale-model steel bridge, allowing students to extend their classroom knowledge to a practical and hands-on steel-design project that grows their interpersonal and professional skills, encourages innovation, and fosters impactful relationships between students and industry professionals.

This year, Cal Steel participated in both the "Compete from Campus" and "Supplemental" competitions, taking 2nd place overall in the Supplemental competition! Within the category rankings for the Supplemental competition, Cal Steel ranked first for its submission video and public vote, demonstrating its deep engagement of team members and community supporters.

In addition to its 2nd place ranking, Cal Steel was recognized for its great enthusiasm and support among teammates by winning the Robert E. Shaw, Jr. Spirit of the Competition Award!

We are so proud of Cal Steel, which embodied true teamwork and sportsmanship through an unprecedented but ultimately fruitful competition season! Go Bears!
