PATH Awarded USDOT SMART Grant for I-40 Corridor Project

Featured Faculty: Scott Moura

We are proud to announce that California PATH has been awarded a U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) SMART grant for their innovative “I-40 TradePort Corridor Intelligent Data Platform” project. The project is led by Bernalillo County, New Mexico. This forward-looking initiative brings together leading experts, including researchers from UC Berkeley’s PATH program, CEE Professor Scott Moura, and transportation strategists from GLD Partners, to create a powerful digital framework that will transform how we manage and optimize travel along the I-40 corridor in New Mexico and Arizona.

In the first stage of the I40DTw project, PATH's team will focus on planning and developing an intelligent data platform designed to support a future digital twin of the corridor. This digital twin will help transportation professionals and decision-makers address critical challenges—from improving safety and efficiency to reducing environmental impacts—by offering dynamic, data-driven insights into traffic flows, freight moves, and infrastructure performance.

The I40DTw project supports local and regional transportation priorities by laying a strong technical and collaborative foundation. It helps position New Mexico and its neighboring states at the forefront of smart infrastructure planning and innovation. PATH's team looks forward to sharing their progress and building a safer, more sustainable transportation future along the I-40 corridor.
