Prof. Jonathan Bray Delivers 2025 Arthur Casagrande Lecture at BSCES

Featured Faculty: Jonathan D. Bray

Berkeley CEE Professor Jonathan Bray was selected to deliver the prestigious 2025 Arthur Casagrande Lecture to the Geo-Institute of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section (BSCES) on October 16 in Boston.

BSCES, the oldest engineering association in the United States, represents more than 3,200 members across Massachusetts. An internationally recognized expert in geotechnical and earthquake engineering, Professor Bray’s research has advanced understanding of soil behavior and seismic performance of earth structures, including liquefaction, seismic site response, and fault rupture propagation.

Over his 35-year career, he has been a leader in post-disaster reconnaissance and has developed widely used models and guidelines for seismic slope stability—helping shape engineering practices and policies that enhance earthquake resilience worldwide.
