Berkeley Civil & Environmental Engineering (CEE) alumni Mason Walters (MS 1980) and Andrew Whittaker (MS 1985, PhD 1988) have been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), one of the highest professional honors in the engineering field.
Election to the NAE recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to engineering research, practice, or education, including pioneering new technologies, advancing traditional fields, or innovating engineering education.
Mr. Walters, senior principal structural engineer at Forell/Elsesser Engineers in Lafayette, California, was honored for his innovations in seismic isolation for retrofitting historic buildings.
Dr. Whittaker, SUNY Distinguished Professor at the University at Buffalo, was recognized for his work in performance-based earthquake engineering, seismic isolation, and damping systems for buildings, bridges, and nuclear power plants.
Congratulations to our CEE alumni on this remarkable achievement!
