Students from CE 112 (Water and Wastewater System Design and Operations) and CE 281 (Engineering Geology) spent Saturday, September 12, touring EBMUD's Mokelumne watershed facilities. The group visited Pardee Reservoir, Camanche Reservoir, and the Mokelumne River Fish Hatchery. EBMUD hosted the visit, with General Manager Clifford Chan, himself a Cal graduate, joining the students.
At Pardee, the group walked along the spillway and went inside the concrete dam, following its interior galleries up to the top portion. They also saw the hydroelectric plant at the dam's base, where water was released into the river system. Discussions included the geology around the site, dam design and operations, water conveyance, and reservoir management, alongside natural protection measures such as fishery habitat, hatchery operations supporting salmon and steelhead, and downstream flow releases.
