Description

The University of South Florida invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Environmental Sustainability at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. An earned Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution is required. The expected start date is August 2019.  We seek individuals who can develop a successful research and education program in any area of Environmental Sustainability that complements our existing strengths; preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in one of the following areas: 1) system analysis and modeling of critical infrastructures or 2) water, sanitation, hygiene (WaSH) and humanitarian engineering. Candidates must demonstrate the potential to develop: 1) national prominence in scholarship, 2) an externally funded research program, 3) excellence in teaching of undergraduate- and graduate-level Civil/Environmental Engineering courses, and 4) the ability to attract and mentor a team of research students, including those from underrepresented groups. 

USF’s Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at USF includes 31 faculty, 180 graduate students, and an exceptional undergraduate program.  Three NSF CAREER awardees are members of  our Environmental  & Water Resources Engineering group.  Interdisciplinary research is supported by a diverse portfolio of funding, including active grants from NSF’s PIRE, NRT, CRISP, and IRES programs, a Dept. of Education GAANN grant for critical water and transportation infrastructures, and a Gates Foundation Grand Challenge Grant.  Faculty collaborate with, USF research centers including the Center for Reinventing Aging Infrastructure for Nutrient Management; Water Institute; Clean Energy Research Center; Center for Infectious Disease Ecology Research; and the Patel College of Global Sustainability.  We also have strong partnerships with the U.S. Peace Corps and others through  Engineering for International Development and Coverdell Fellows Program for returned Peace Corps volunteers programs.  The World Health Organization has designated USF’s College of Public Health as a WHO Collaborating Center for Social Marketing and Social Change to address non-communicable diseases. USF’s Global Citizens Project is a university-wide initiative to enhance undergraduate students' global competencies through curricular and co-curricular experiences.

The College of Engineering at the University of South Florida is ranked at #55 among public institutions by U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 engineering graduate school rankings.  The college serves nearly 7,000 students, offering ten bachelor’s programs, seven ABET-accredited, as well as 12 master’s and eight doctoral degrees.  The College is actively engaged in local and global research activities with $36.4 million in research awards for the fiscal year 2017-2018.  The College has 11 major research centers and institutes and is actively engaged in local and global research activities focused on sustainability, biomedical engineering, computing technology and transportation.
