Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at San José State University (SJSU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the broad area of Geomatics. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Applicants must also have a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a background in Geomatics or a Ph.D. in Geomatics.

Candidates must demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching in classroom and laboratory settings using a variety of pedagogical techniques and technological tools to reach a diverse population. They must demonstrate an ability to create a sustainable research program in support of their retention, tenure, and promotion. The position requires excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. The candidate’s principal instructional responsibilities will be in surveying and drafting courses. An ability to teach in other civil engineering areas and the ability to obtain a professional license are desirable.

The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at San José State University offers an ABET-accredited BS-Civil Engineering program and a MS-Civil Engineering program that is designed for working professionals. Our curriculum supports six core Civil Engineering disciplines and allows students to gain a wide breadth of knowledge in Civil Engineering. Our BS program includes coursework that give students opportunity to develop professional skills, including those in professional communication, inclusive engagement, and design. The program is supplemented with coursework and extracurricular opportunities that are designed to prepare students for professional licensure and engineering practice. The department utilizes many high-impact practices to support student success including active learning pedagogies, early introduction to discipline courses, and student engagement opportunities. Classroom instruction is complemented with many hands-on laboratory experiences, a strong culture of student club participation across disciplines, and award-winning faculty with many years of academic and industry experience. Our MS program is designed for working professionals and is a professional program that focuses on graduating engineers with excellent skills required to enter industry ready to contribute. Research opportunities are available to all students in the department and offer a wide variety of experiences.
