Professor Dimitrios Zekkos gave a "Powerful Informative Talk", known in geotechnical engineering as "PIT", at the 20th International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering that was held in Sydney, Australia from May 1st to May 5th, 2022. Zekkos' talk was on "Autonomy Revolutionizing Geotechnical Practice" and described how new technologies, and sensors, on satellites, UAVs and wireless sensors, paired with Artificial Intelligence data analysis on multi-sensor data is expected to change dramatically the geotechnical engineering field.

The International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering is the premier conference in geotechnical engineering and is held every four years. It is organized under the Auspices of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). The 20th ICSMGE was postponed by a year due to COVID restrictions.
