El Poder de la Conciencia Ambiental y la Comunidad: de Colombia al UC Berkeley

Body

Science at Cal - UC Berkeley is hosting a presentation in Spanish with environmental engineer Andrea Naranjo-Soledad, from Berkeley engineering, on “The Power of Environmental Consciousness and Community: From Colombia to UC Berkeley” on June 28, 2022, at 5:30 PM at the César E. Chávez Branch Library.

Before moving to the United States, Andrea Naranjo Soledad, a doctoral student at the University of California, Berkeley, lived in Bogotá, Colombia, where she saw many communities with polluted air and water and a lack of food and access to sanitary facilities. Seeing these areas motivated her to find ways to help low-income communities access clean water. In this presentation, she will share how her experiences, along with the support of her community, helped her gain admission into the Ph.D. program at UC Berkeley. She will present an overview of the projects she has worked on in Dr. Gadgil’s lab within the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and focus on the design of low-cost technology for removing two dangerous pollutants from groundwater.
