Roy W. Carlson was an engineer who worked on the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos and the University of California, Berkeley, as a member of the Explosives Division and Group X-2A. He was a consultant for the Trinity test and was in charge of designing Jumbo and overseeing its construction. He was a pioneer in concrete technology.

Congratulations to CEE Professor Iris Tommelein on receiving the Roy W. Carlson Distinguished Professorship in Engineering! Tommelein is the Director of the Project Production Systems Laboratory (P2SL) and is an expert in on-site layout and logistics, operations and methods design, materials management, and supply-chain management. She has been studying, developing, and applying principles and techniques of project-based production management for the architecture-engineering-construction (AEC) industry, called Lean Construction.
