Laney College and the department have a long-term history of meeting annually for a shared fluid mechanics lecture. Last week, the department implemented a unique approach to the yearly visit of Laney students.

Specifically, CEE expanded the academic topics to include structural engineering and hosted a new session with the Center for Access to Engineering Excellence. As part of the session, Nicole McIntyre, inaugural manager of the Transfer Success Initiatives for UC Berkeley's College of Engineering, answered questions about the mechanics of joining Berkeley as a transfer student.

CEE Professors Tracy Becker and Evan Variano, and the ASCE Steel Bridge Competition team took charge of SEMM activities. During a tour of the hydraulics laboratory, Laney College students got the opportunity to see the traditional fluid mechanics materials used by the department. CEE undergraduate student Isabella "Izzy" Peters also showcased her most recent work on testing blade geometry for hydrokinetic renewable-energy systems!
