Congratulations to Berkeley CEE Ph.D. student Xiaolei Chu and incoming postdoc Prateek Arora, who won second and first place, respectively, for their groundbreaking research in resilience engineering at the 2025 EMI Objective Resilience Student Paper-Presentation Competition

The delegation also included Kexun Li, another Ph.D. student, who presented at the conference and contributed to the department's strong presence at this prestigious event. Xiaolei is a student of CEE Assistant Professor Ziqi Wang, and Kexun is a student of CEE Assistant Professor Luis Ceferino.

The competition, sponsored by the EMI Objective Resilience Committee (ORC), took place during the Engineering Mechanics Institute Conference in Anaheim from May 27 to May 30, 2025. It highlights cutting-edge research in resilience modeling, AI-enabled assessment techniques, and optimization strategies for enhancing the resilience of infrastructure and communities facing various hazards. Participants are evaluated on their ability to present original research, demonstrate technical excellence, and address complex challenges in resilience engineering.
