Susan Shaheen named Vice Chair of Transportation Research Board's Executive Committee

CEE Professor-In-Residence Susan Shaheen has been named Vice Chair of the Transportation Research Board's (TRB) Executive Committee. She will assume the post at the annual TRB meeting in January 2020.

Susan Shaheen is an internationally recognized expert in mobility and the sharing economy. She Co-Directs the Transportation Sustainability Research Center (TSRC) of the Institute of Transportation Studies at Berkeley. In addition, she is the Director of the Innovative Mobility Initiative of the University of California’s Institute of Transportation Studies, comprised of UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, and UCLA.

She is the first Honda Distinguished Scholar in Transportation at the Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Davis from 2000 to 2012. She served as the Policy and Behavioral Research Program Leader at California Partners for Advanced Transit and Highways from 2003 to 2007, and as a special assistant to the Director’s Office of the California Department of Transportation from 2001 to 2004. She has a Ph.D. in ecology, focusing on the energy and environmental aspects of transportation, from UC Davis and a M.S. in public policy analysis from the University of Rochester.

The TRB Executive Committee is the senior policy body of TRB, and provides oversight to ensure that TRB's activities are appropriate for the National Academies and constructive to the transportation system and the nation.

Ongoing and proposed TRB projects are addressed during each Executive Committee meeting and are approved, rejected, or accepted after modification. The committee is composed of approximately 25 members.
