This past week our Construction Competition Team (faculty adviser Prof. Iris Tommelein) went to Sparks, NV, for the annual Associated Schools of Construction Regions 6 & 7 Competition. Among 1,331 students competing from 53 universities and 22 states, this year Cal Construction was 70 students strong and fielded 10 teams in 9 different tracks. Two Cal teams and one student on an Alternates team earned hard-won awards:

  • Virtual Design and Construction - 2nd Place: Aidan Aparri (team lead), Paulo Borrero, Matthew Buck, Paige Lyles, Camille Roberts, and Phoenix Robledo

  • Sustainability - 4th Place & Best Presentation: Owen Zuidema (team lead), Alexander Alvarado, Daniel Arce, Rapha Felipe, Tasnima Naoshin, Alexsander Rojas

  • Alternates - 1st Place: Jorge Wu Loo on team with Alternates from other schools

Well done everyone!  The return to in-person competition was met with extreme enthusiasm from both the students as well as all industry sponsors. Each track was particularly competitive this year, and we are proud to have succeeded despite this. We are grateful for all in-kind and financial support received from coaches, companies, and the Construction Employers Association.

Go Bears!
