Professor Arpad Horvath was selected as one of the 13 finalists for the Distinguished Teaching Award (DTA) hosted by the Berkeley Center for Teaching and Learning. More than 140 student, faculty, and staff nominations were received campus-wide. While all 13 finalists had outstanding and inspiring records and firm nomination and support letters, five instructors ultimately received the award.
The DTA recognizes individual faculty for continued excellence in teaching. Beyond an individual class, having sustained excellence in teaching inspires intellectual curiosity in students and colleagues. It makes them aware of significant relationships between the academy and the world at large. Award recipients get a cash award from campus and recognition by the Academic Senate, in addition to being honored at a public ceremony. The campus often calls upon Distinguished Teachers to provide a voice in teaching-related issues.
All 13 finalists will receive recognition with a certificate from the Committee on Teaching.
