Moura, Perez Receive Prestigious O. Hugo Schuck Award

Featured Faculty: Scott Moura

The American Automatic Control Council has selected Professor Scott Moura and CEE Systems Engineering PhD candidate, Hector Perez, as the recipients of the 2016 O. Hugo Schuck Best Paper Award in the Application category for the 2015 ACC paper titled “Sensitivity-Based Interval PDE Observer for Battery SOC Estimation.”

The paper develops a sensitivity-based interval observer that maps bounded parameter uncertainty to state estimation intervals within the context of electrochemical battery partial differential equation (PDE) models and state of charge (SOC) estimation.

The O. Hugo Schuck Award is given to recognize the best two papers presented at the previous American Control Conference. One award is for a paper emphasizing contributions to theory and the other emphasizing significant or innovative applications.

It is one of the most prestigious awards in the controls community, and acknowledges breakthrough contributions in the field of control and optimization, in the present case in the context of transportation and energy.

The award will be publicly announced and presented at the 2016 American Control Conference during the Awards Ceremony on Thursday, July 7, 2016 in Boston, MA.
