Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Professor Kara Nelson's lab has been conducting research on monitoring COVID-19 in wastewater. By measuring levels of the virus in sewage, her team tracks the prevalence of COVID-19 among many thousands of people by testing from a single sample station. This method is not only more effective and efficient than relying on clinical tests, but allows researchers and policymakers to track the virus' spread well before individuals show symptoms.
Voice of America has published an episode in which it highlights the work of Nelson's lab, featuring testimony from Rose Kantor and Lauren Kennedy. Click here to view the episode and learn more about this critical work.
