Academy of Distinguished Alumni Inducts Classes of 2020 & 2021, Raises $100K for (CEE)²

After a two-year hiatus, Berkeley CEE's Academy of Distinguished Alumni (ADA) inducted its Classes of 2020 and 2021 in a gala event on June 16, 2022. This year's banquet celebrated the 10th anniversary of the ADA's founding, and welcomed 20 new individuals into its membership!

Friends and colleagues reunited to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of all our Academy members. Guests traveled from near and far for the gala, which took place in Lower Sproul Plaza on the Berkeley campus.

The event was attended by over 150 alumni, faculty, students, and long-time supporters of Berkeley CEE (see the program here).

Funds raised by the Academy in 2022 will support Community-Engaged Education in Civil & Environmental Engineering, or (CEE)², a program designed to attract more young students with greater gender and racial diversity to engineering. From earthquake resilience to green infrastructure, (CEE)² engages Bay Area grade school students in projects within their own neighborhoods, emphasizing the role that they have in envisioning and developing solutions to some of our most fundamental challenges. In its first year, (CEE)² has reached over 200 Oakland Unified School District high schoolers.

This year, banquet sponsors raised $100K to support (CEE)², leading the way in growing the program in the next three years to more than 1,000 students from a number of under-represented Bay Area communities.

We celebrate and thank our sponsors for their unwavering support!
