We are pleased to welcome new faculty members Franco Zunino in Materials and Manxi Wu in Transportation and Systems, who will join the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering as Assistant Professors next January!
Their expertise builds on our tradition of innovation through cutting-edge research on novel cementitious materials (Zunino) and the application of game theory, multi-agent learning, and optimization to urban systems (Wu).
Zunino's research revolves around developing novel, environmentally friendly cementitious materials with a fundamental scientific approach. Among his interests are advanced, time-resolved characterization methods of cement hydration, the interaction of surfaces with polymers in cement paste, microstructural analysis through electron microscopy, and optimization of the production process of clinker and supplementary cementitious materials. Zunino is currently a scientist and Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) fellow in the Physical Chemistry of Building Materials (PCBM) group. He completed his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and his Master's in Construction Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
Wu's research develops methods in game theory and multi-agent learning with applications in urban systems. Her research focuses on studying platforms for information provision and autonomous services. She develops models and tools for strategic learning, information design, and incentive mechanisms to achieve socially desirable outcomes in socio-technical systems. She is currently an assistant professor at Cornell University Operations Research and Information Engineering. Wu completed her PhD in Social and Engineering Systems and her Master's in Transportation from MIT.
Welcome, Franco Zunino and Manxi Wu!
