The Beavers Hosted Student Field Trip to Calaveras Dam Replacement Project

Body

The Beavers hosted 19 CEE students and Professor Iris Tommelein at the Calaveras Dam Replacement Project for their Student Day on October 27, 2017.

This project, a joint venture between Dragados-USA, Flatiron West Inc., and Sukut Construction Inc., offered everyone a unique opportunity to learn about the engineering and project management of such a complex project.

The $800 million project, slated to complete in 2019, consists of building a new zoned earth and rock fill dam immediately downstream of the existing dam.

The replacement dam will have a structural height of 220-feet and is designed to accommodate a maximum credible earthquake on the Calaveras Fault.

The dam will have a crest length of 1,210 feet, a base thickness of 1,180 feet, and crest thickness of 80 feet. The storage is crucial to providing adequate water to our 2.6 million customers in the Bay Area.

Thank you, Beavers!
