Description

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, announces the opening of multiple tenure-track faculty positions in several areas of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The School is seeking to expand its research and teaching expertise in core areas of Civil and Environmental Engineering as well as in interdisciplinary areas that address global grand challenges. Preference will be given to candidates at the assistant professor level, but exceptional candidates in any area and at the associate professor or professor level will be considered.

Structural Engineering Mechanics and Materials: Faculty candidates are sought in the following areas: behavior and design of reinforced and pre-stressed concrete and masonry structures; experimental testing and modeling of large-scale structures, including structures and materials with infrastructure applications; behavior, experimental validation and design of structures with tailored properties, e.g., acoustic, thermal; wave propagation, with applications in earthquake engineering and in other areas of Civil Engineering structures.

Water Resources Engineering: Faculty candidates are sought in the areas of hydraulic engineering and environmental fluid mechanics with particular interest in large-scale experimental research on water-related infrastructure using the laboratory facilities and instrumentation of the Dalton Family Environmental Fluid Mechanics Laboratory and the Donovan Hydraulics Teaching Laboratory at Georgia Tech. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, river sediment transport, contaminant fate in the natural water environment, hydraulic structures for water resources management, computational fluid dynamics combined with experimental fluid mechanics and hydraulics, and adaptation of water infrastructure systems to climate change.

Candidates should have completed a doctoral degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field by August 15, 2019, and will have either demonstrated, or shown a clear potential, for creative and independent research that would lead to a strong, extramurally funded research program and national and international recognition. A background check must be completed prior to employment. The teaching assignment will include both undergraduate and graduate courses. Screening of applications will begin December 1, 2018. Recruitment will continue until the position is filled.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, one-page statement of research interests, one-page statement of teaching experience and interests, and names/contact information of four references in a single PDF file to: FacultySearch@ce.gatech.edu. Please format the file name as {lastname, initials}_Faculty_Search_App.pdf and include “CEE Faculty Search” and your area of specialization (e.g., “Structures”) in the subject line of the e-mail.
