Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Princeton University invites applications for a faculty position with a preferred start date of September 1, 2019. The search is open for an Assistant Professor appointment. A Ph.D. degree is required, in CEE, electrical engineering, computer science or a related field.

The department has a long history of innovation and creativity in research addressing important topics in civil and environmental engineering. This faculty position represents a move to connect this tradition to the emerging areas of data science, machine learning, and complexity. Examples of research scholarship for a faculty hire would be: remote sensing and computer vision of urban systems, sensors for sustainability and resilience of the built and natural environment, artificial intelligence for smart cities, cyber-physical systems, hydroinformatics, energy infrastructure and climate change adaptation. Candidates must have the ability and motivation to develop a vigorous independent research program and to participate in collaborative efforts of the faculty.

The faculty appointment would be primarily in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, with the possibility for a joint appointment or association with another unit. The CEE department has strong ties with other departments, centers, and institutes at Princeton that focus on urban studies, architecture, art and archeology, energy, environment, and materials science; the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop initiatives that establish and strengthen such connections. Teaching will include related foundational undergraduate and advanced graduate courses.

The department is committed to fostering an academic environment that acknowledges and encourages diversity and differences. The successful candidate will pursue academic excellence in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings.

Review of applications will begin November 15, 2018 and continue until the position is filled. Applicants should apply online at https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/8861 and should submit their application cover letter, CV, contact information for three references, separate statements of research and teaching vision, and up to three representative papers through the online application system. Inquiries regarding this position should be addressed to the Chair of the Search Committee, Prof. Amilcare Porporato (aporpora@princeton.edu).

This position is subject to the university's background check policy.
