Valley Water is looking for a highly motivated temporary Associate Engineer - Civil / Environmental to support Water Quality in regulatory compliance, treatment plant support, and process engineering related projects. This might be a great opportunity for some students to come join Valley Water!

TYPE:             Part Time 20-30 hours  – 960 hours

SALARY:        $41.22              

LOCATION:   Valley Water, 5700 Almaden Expressway, San Jose, CA

Knowledge:

  1. Principles, practices, theories, and concepts of engineering related to drinking water and water reuse treatment processes, including but not limited to: coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, media filtration, disinfection, advanced oxidation, membrane filtration, reverse osmosis, and biological processes.
  2. Principles, theories, and concepts of water chemistry and hydraulics, microbiology, and limnology.
  3. Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations with emphasis on drinking water, recycled water, and potable reuse.
  4. Computer software applications, such as Microsoft Office, Oracle databases (Surface Water Treatment Rule database), ODMS, and LIMS.
  5.  Principles of advanced mathematics and its application to civil engineering work.
  6.  Practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting effective and technical reports.
  7. Principles and techniques for providing customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and District staff.

Key Abilities and Skills:

  1. Apply engineering principles, practices, concepts, and standards to engineering problems.
  2. Apply water resources principles, practices, concepts, and standards to water supply planning, operations, and water quality problems. ·
  3. Prepare, understand, and interpret construction plans, specifications, drawings, and other engineering documents.
  4. Independently conduct comprehensive engineering studies, investigations, and analyses.
  5. Perform engineering calculations and statistics.
  6. Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
  7. Analyze, interpret, summarize, and present technical engineering information and data.
  8. Interpret, apply, explain, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations, and District engineering policies and procedures.
  9. Conduct engineering research projects, evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations, and prepare effective technical reports.
  10. Use office equipment including computer equipment and specialized software applications programs.
  11. Organize and prioritize multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines.
  12. Make sound, independent decisions within established policy and procedural guidelines, and best engineering practices.
  13. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  14. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work.
