Professor Khalid Mosalam received the 2021 Hojjat Adeli Award for Innovation in Computing for the journal paper "Balanced Semi-Supervised Generative Adversarial Network for Damage Assessment from Low-Data Imbalanced-Class Regime," published in the Journal of Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering. Yuqing Gao, a CEE graduate student, and Pengyuan Zhai, a Harvard University graduate student, are co-authors of the paper. This paper presents a comprehensive solution of a generative adversarial network (GAN) variant to address common deficiencies in applying deep learning to vision-based structural health monitoring (SHM).
The Hojjat Adeli Award for Innovation in Computing, established by Wiley-Blackwell in 2010, is awarded annually to the most innovative paper published in the Journal of Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering. The journal is one of the highest-ranking journals in infrastructure computing, and the award includes a plaque and a cash reward of $1500.
