On average, its programs receive more than $25 million in research funds a year, one of the largest award totals for an organized research unit or academic department at Berkeley. Almost 200 faculty members and staff researchers, and more than 100 graduate students take part in this multidisciplinary program.
ITS is home to:
- California Center for Innovative Transportation (CCIT), a center to facilitate deployment of research
- California Partners for Advanced Transit and Highways (PATH), the nation’s largest program of intelligent transportation research
- National Center of Excellence for Aviation Operations Research (NEXTOR), a consortium sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration
- Pavement Research Center (PRC), an international authority on pavement structures, materials, and technologies
- Safe Transportation Research & Education Center (SafeTREC), a joint venture of ITS and the School of Public Health
- UC Berkeley Center for Future Urban Transport, a Volvo Center of Excellence
