Congratulations to CEE Professor Dimitrios Konstantinidis for being awarded a Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research (PEER) Center grant to explore the stability of seismic isolation systems! Professor Konstantinidis's project is titled "Effects of Reinforcement Characteristics on the Response and Stability of Elastomeric Isolation Systems."
His research aims to enhance the design of isolators by examining how steel shim flexibility affects their critical loads and stability limits. Employing component tests, shake table experiments and high-fidelity simulations; the project will refine analytical tools and design guidelines.
The work will proceed in two phases at PEER's facilities. It will utilize a new advanced bearing testing machine and the shake table, with significant in-kind support from Dynamic Isolation Systems.
