Area of Interest: Smart Cities
Cities, buildings, campuses, transportation, energy, or water networks are examples of complex systems built for people. New ubiquitous computing technologies like apps, learning thermostats, GPS, tweets, Facebook, or check-ins are creating avenues for engagement between the citizen and the infrastructure. When all of this interaction is well designed, one realizes a dynamic wherein the systems learn more about the citizen, and the citizen gets more out of the infrastructure. This emphasis offered by the Systems program is focused on the models, computing technologies, and theories empowering engineers designing the relationship between citizen and infrastructure.

- At least 1 of the remaining 4 Systems core courses
- 1 Survey methods course such as Public Health 219D Social and Behavioral Health Research: Introduction to Survey Methods
- 1 Econometrics course such as Mathematical Methods for Agricultural and Resource Economists
- 2 courses in Psychology or Behavioral Economics
