Professor William Nazaroff recently completed service on an expert committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM).
The committee produced a report entitled "Environmental Chemicals, the Human Microbiome, and Health Risk: A Research Strategy." The project was sponsored by the USEPA and by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.

CEE Adjunct Professor Thomas Kirchstetter was appointed Director of ETA's Energy Analysis and Environmental Impacts Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Kirchstetter had served as acting director since June 2017. He is also head of the Sustainable Energy and Environmental Systems Department, and for the Sustainable Energy Systems Group.
Alumna Gabrielle Boisramé (CE PhD '16) authored A Tale of Two Fires: How Wildfires Can Both Help and Harm our Water Supply (California WaterBlog, 12.3.17).
Professor Sally Thompson was asked, "So are wet winters worse for fires? Or are dry winters worse?"
The answer to both questions, is yes.
“Regardless of winter precipitation, wildland fuels inevitably are desiccated and ready to burn by late summer and fall,” Thompson says. “The risk is better calculated from a daily rather than an annual perspective—what the humidity is, and what the winds are doing on a particular day."

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the University of Washington (UW) is soliciting applications for a full-time faculty position in environmental engineering, particularly focusing on innovative approaches for treatment of water, wastewater, stormwater, and/or groundwater. Candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor are strongly encouraged, but those with an established reputation as a leader in their field will also be considered at the rank of Associate Professor. A PhD or equivalent degree, in civil or environmental engineering or a related discipline, is required.
The Civil Engineering Department in the Russ College of Engineering & Technology at Ohio University invites applications for a full-time, benefits eligible, non-tenure faculty position in the area of Construction Engineering & Management (CEM).
Upon hiring, the faculty is expected to have the following responsibilities: Teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses (in-class, online) in CEM and related areas; Serve as a program coordinator for the Construction Management (CM) Certificate program; Collaborate and assist in departmental activities, especially related to student performance data collection for accreditation; Develop a strong partnership with construction industry; Provide leadership to the student chapter of ASCE on matters related to CEM.
Candidates with at least a Master’s degree in civil engineering (or other closely associated discipline fields) and a minimum of 5 years of project management experience are encouraged to apply for this position. Preference may be given to those with prior teaching experience and background in computer graphics and land surveying. The successful candidate will be hired at the rank of Lecturer, Associate Lecturer, or Senior Lecturer, depending on the qualifications. The Environmental Engineering graduate students, research staff, faculty and their family and significant others celebrated Thanksgiving together with a potluck dinner on November 18 at Berkeley's Northbrae Community Church.
More than 100 people in the Env. Eng. community attended. The dinner was the first ever Thanksgiving event for many international students.
