Student Organizations

All SEMM graduate students are encouraged to join the student chapters of SEAONC (Structural Engineers Association of Northern California) and EERI (Earthquake Engineering Research Institute).

The Cal SEAONC Student Chapter organizes opportunities that promote career development and build community for structural engineering graduate students at UC Berkeley. Most notably, these activities include office visits and a mentoring program. The mentoring program connects SEMM students with industry professionals, researchers, and members of academia each semester. The office visits introduce SEMM students to structural engineering firms around the SF Bay Area. Cal SEAONC also holds social events for SEMM students to connect and build community.  For further details please contact calseaonc@gmail.com.

The EERI Berkeley Student Chapter promotes research in earthquake engineering through organized seminars each semester with invited professionals and researchers. EERI at Berkeley also promotes community awareness of the impact of earthquakes through an Earthquake Preparedness Clinic open to the whole community, and outreach programs for elementary and high schools (School Earthquake Safety Initiative, Expand Your Horizons), which also provide volunteer opportunities for SEMM students.  For further details please see the organization web page or contact eeri@berkeley.edu.
