Iris Tommelein, professor of engineering and project management, is attending the 30^th Annual Conference of the International Group for Lean Construction. The IGLC community celebrates 30 years of Lean Construction research and application in the industry. This international multi-conference brings academic and industry professionals together to discuss pressing construction research and practice topics.

Maya Carrasquillo, assistant professor of energy, civil infrastructure, and climate, was honored by the Georgia Tech Alumni Association in Georgia Tech's annual 40 under 40 honorees list for the Class of 2022. 

Professor Mark Hansen and recent CEE alumnus Lu Dai ('22) served as a moderator and panelist, accordingly, for the Machine Learning Workshop held by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the NEXTOR consortium. The workshop fostered thoughts and discussions on using fast-growing machine learning techniques for problems of interest to the FAA.

This year, UC Berkeley's Cal Seismic Design team placed fourth in the annual Seismic Design Competition hosted by the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) held at the National Conference on Earthquake Engineering in Salt Lake City, Utah. The student teams had to build a complex wooden building model able to withstand simulated earthquakes from being tested on a shaking table.

After a two-year hiatus, Berkeley CEE's Academy of Distinguished Alumni (ADA) inducted its Classes of 2020 and 2021 in a gala event on June 16, 2022. This year's banquet celebrated the 10th anniversary of the ADA's founding, and welcomed 20 new individuals into its membership!

Associate Professor Tracy Becker has been awarded The Professor Ed & Diane Wilson Presidential Chair in Structural Engineering. First established in 2016, the endowed chair is generously funded by Berkeley CEE alumnus Ashraf Habibullah, the Founder, CEO and President of Computers & Structures, Inc. (CSI).

Congratulations to CEE alum and Academy of Distinguished Alumni (ADA) member Reginald DesRoches! Currently the Provost of Rice University, he will begin his new role as President of the university on July 1, 2022.

Assistant Professor Amy Pickering received the prestigious NSF CAREER Award for her cutting-edge research exploring targeted long-read DNA sequencing to develop a culture-independent metagenomics platform for global monitoring of antibiotic resistance (AR) that takes away the need for costly equipment or access to high-performance computing resources. 

Professor Khalid Mosalam received the 2021 Hojjat Adeli Award for Innovation in Computing for the journal paper "Balanced Semi-Supervised Generative Adversarial Network for Damage Assessment from Low-Data Imbalanced-Class Regime," published in the Journal of Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering.
