Ziqi Wang, Structural Engineer, Joins CEE Faculty

 

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Ziqi Wang joined our faculty as an Assistant Professor on July 1, 2021. Dr. Wang's research focuses on structural reliability, random vibration and uncertainty quantification for civil and earthquake engineering. It is aimed at quantifying and understanding the influence of ubiquitous uncertainties present within civil and earthquake engineering practice. 

Shaheen Contributes to NABSA's 2020 Shared Micromobility State of the Industry Report

The North American Bikeshare & Scootershare Association (NABSA) just released the 2020 Shared Micromobility State of the Industry Report for North America. This second annual report shows the industry's resilience and response during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Professor Susan Shaheen helped develop NABSA’s report, which shows the industry's resilience in the face of a global pandemic, and features numerous new data points and metrics.

Athanasopoulos-Zekkos, Zekkos and Gong Co-Author ASCE Report on 2020 Edenville and Sanford Dam Failures

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) just published a reconnaissance report on the failures of the Edenville and Sanford Dams that occurred on May 19, 2020, in Michigan. The report presents the results of an investigation immediately after the failure using a range of techniques, includes geophysics, and optical and infrared UAV-based surveys.

Transportation Sustainability Research Center and Partners Awarded DOE Grant for Large AV Fleet and Research

UC Berkeley's Transportation Sustainability Research Center (TSRC), Optimus Ride, Clemson University, and Argonne National Labs were selected for a Department of Energy (DOE) grant of up to $4.3 million to deploy one of the largest autonomous fleets in the US and conduct critical autonomous vehicle (AV) research.

Ivey, Apte Findings on Disparities in Air Pollution Exposure Featured in C&EN Magazine

 

In the US, historical redlining limited where people of color could live by denying loans and insurance to individuals based on their race. As a result, many people of color were forced to live in neighborhoods with poorer air quality. Though the Clean Air Act, introduced in 1963, has effectively reduced overall levels of harmful pollutants in the US, inequity in air quality persists to this day. 

Candace Yee Selected as Finalist for Daniel W. Mead Prize for Students

Alumna Candace Yee has been selected by ASCE's Committee on Student Members as a national finalist in the 2021 Daniel W. Mead Student Contest. Each year, the contest solicits papers from young civil engineers on a topic related to professional ethics. This year, it asked students to address the responsibilities of civil engineers in the face of a global pandemic.
