Caltrans has awarded the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER) a $5.075 Million contract to continue the PEER-Bridge Research Program. Caltrans has had a well-established bridge research program, which was significantly expanded in response to the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
CEE Professor Jonathan Bray will deliver the prestigious Burmister Lecture at Columbia University in New York on March 25th. His presentation will focus on how knowledge is advanced through post-extreme event reconnaissance, a field in which he has made significant contributions. Professor Bray founded and led the National Science Foundation-sponsored Geotechnical Extreme Events Reconnaissance (GEER) Association.
Air Quality Modeling and Exposure Lab graduate students attended the Toast to Clean Air Event, an annual celebration of stakeholder commitment to cleaner air in California. The event is hosted by the Coalition for Clean Air, and the 2025 ceremony featured guest speaker CalEPA Secretary Yana Garcia.
The Berkeley Water Center hosted an engaging Water Day event on Thursday, March 20th, at the Banatao Auditorium in Sutardja Dai Hall at UC Berkeley. Attendees enjoyed coffee, refreshments, and lunch throughout the day while participating in thought-provoking discussions and exploring innovative solutions to global water challenges.
We are so excited to announce that two CEE semi-finalists will compete in the UC Berkeley Grad Slam on April 9, 3:00-5:00 p.m. via Zoom. The Berkeley first-place winner will advance to compete against the other UC finalists at the UC-wide competition in May.
