UC Berkeley PATH Awarded $10M USDOT Grant for Rural Autonomous Vehicle Freight Program
The University of California, Berkeley's Partners for Advanced Transportation Technology (PATH) has received a $10 million, six-year project grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Rural Autonomous Vehicle Program.

This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the foundations of the finite element method, covering essential theory and practical examples in sufficient detail for readers to apply the knowledge to their own engineering challenges and understand more advanced applications.
Remembering Professor Emeritus Carl L. Monismith: Paving a Legacy of Learning and Kindness
We are deeply saddened to announce the death of a great man, mentor, researcher, and teacher. Berkeley CEE Professor Emeritus Carl L. Monismith died on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, in Missoula, Montana, at 98. Memorial services will be held this spring in California.

In Memoriam: Professor Emeritus Alex Becker
Alex Becker, Professor Emeritus of Civil and Environmental Engineering, passed away on December 16, 2024. He was 89 years old. Professor Becker was a Polish Holocaust survivor who emigrated to Montreal after World War II. Between 1958 and 1964, he received his B.S., MS., and PhD in Physics from McGill University and did postdoctoral work at the Centre de Recherches Geophysiques in France.
