On March 9, 2024, some Transportation Graduate Students Organizing Committee (TRANSOC) members set off to complete a Guinness World Record: The fastest Time to Visit all BART Stations. After weeks of planning and coordination, the route was set, and roles were assigned to ensure they would achieve the fastest time to date. Everything went perfectly to plan; all connections were made, and they finished in 5 hours, 47 minutes, and 43 seconds!

The Transportation Graduate Students Organizing Committee (TRANSOC) was invited by the California High-Speed Rail Authority to visit their showroom in Sacramento on Friday, January 26, 2024. This is such a unique opportunity for our transportation engineering and planning students to not only meet some of the station designers behind the US' first high-speed rail system but also provide input on their designs.

The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company hosted CE 166 students on March 8 for a site visit to the “Doolittle Project” in San Leandro. During the site walk and presentation, students learned about different construction methods for structural work, the Tilt-up process, and other concreting activities.

Students in Mark Shami's course visited UCSF's Parnassus Research and Academic Building Project. The visit included a presentation and site walk in partnership with Hensel Phelps. It exposed the students to the various construction methods, heavy equipment, earth-moving operations, and other activities on this complex project site. This trip was inspiring and informative!

The CEE ENV group welcomed three alumni back on campus for a panel discussion on their professional lives and experiences at UC Berkeley. Mark Kiffe (M.S. '22), Dan Cohen (M.S '22), and Lorien Fono (Ph.D. '06) spent a couple of hours on Friday, February 23rd answering current students’ questions on a variety of topics from job application strategies to their advice on work/life balance. The panel was moderated by current PhD students J’Anna Lue and Allie Nguyen.
