UC Berkeley Shaking Table Anniversary to be Celebrated on June 24

 

The UC Berkeley Shaking Table, located at the Richmond Field Station (RFS), was officially dedicated on June 24, 1972. As the first modern shaking table in the world, it helped researchers conduct pioneering research in the field of earthquake engineering. After 50 years, the table still serves researchers and industry users with earthquake simulation tests in 6-degrees-of-freedom.

Description

The State Water Resources Control Board has an opening for a Senior Water Resource Control Engineer (Specialist). The position is eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position.  Office headquarters are located at 1001 I Street, 14th Floor, Sacramento, right in the heart of downtown near the Capitol building, Cesar Chavez Park, the Golden 1 Stadium, light rail stations, and other public transportation.

This individual will serve as a project lead and technical expert of an interdisciplinary team to conduct, manage, and direct the development and assessment of highly complex hydrologic, geomorphic, and water quality models and water allocation tools.  This work will help to inform water allocation during times of shortage and the development of instream flow requirements for diversion of water for cannabis cultivation.

Pay Range: $10,3115 – $12,905 per month

Cal Steel Bridge Team Competes at Nationals

 

The Steel Bridge team traveled to the AISC National Steel Bridge Competition in Blacksburg, VA on May 27-28th. Thirty-four teams from all over the nation, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico gathered at Virginia Tech to display, assemble, and test their 20 ft long structures.

The Golden Bears won 3rd place in the video portion of the competition and won 6th place for the stiffness of their bridge. We are very proud of their resilience, as they overcame various challenges throughout competition. We are excited to see them grow in the upcoming year.

The Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District is hiring engineers at several levels: Assistant Engineer, Associate Engineer, and Senior Engineer. Engineers will be responsible for professional engineering work in the design, evaluation and construction of wastewater treatment plant, wastewater collection system, storm water system, and related facilities.

This position will serve as a project manager on projects and work closely with inspectors, contractors, and other departments throughout the District. Additionally, it will review engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations for sewers and other facilities to ensure compliance with current industry practices, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
