Congratulations to Luis Berg (MS, 2022), the recipient of the SOM Structural Engineering Fellowship! The $20,000 fellowship is awarded annually to a graduating student based in the United States who specializes in structural engineering to conduct independent travel and research that contributes to the SOM Foundation's mission.

Karl S. Pister, an engineering professor emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley, and a former UC Santa Cruz chancellor who devoted more than 70 years to the university, to higher education and to expanding educational opportunities for students from kindergarten to graduate school, died on Saturday, May 14, at his home in Walnut Creek. He was 96.

Professor Marta Gonzalez is the recipient of a top paper award from IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, for her research on advancements in smartphone applications for drivers. 

Environmental engineering science major Claire Beckstoffer is a finalist for this year's University Medal award! The University Medal was established in 1871, three years after the founding of the University of California, to recognize outstanding undergraduate students upon their graduation. 

A group of committed Cal Construction students recently completed a construction safety class led by Beavers Teaching Fellow Mark Shami. Following completion of the three-part workshop, students received their 10-hour OSHA cards.

Professor Dimitrios Zekkos gave a "Powerful Informative Talk", known in geotechnical engineering as "PIT", at the 20th International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering that was held in Sydney, Australia from May 1st to May 5th, 2022.
