As Engineering Program Associate, you will be a key supplement to the Build Change Engineering Program by providing expertise, mentorship and quality assurance to programs and projects globally. You will be able to work directly with the engineering teams which are composed of national and international staff, travel to program offices and new project locations, and apply your experience and knowledge in structural engineering to new contexts and systems which may not already have well-established standards. You will be able to support multiple facets of Build Change’s work: mitigation and reduction of risk from the next disaster through optimizing solutions for proactive retrofitting of housing and schools at scale; ensuring communities are empowered to reconstruct to disaster-resistant standards through developing and teaching cost-effective, locally appropriate, and clear guidelines for design and construction of houses and schools; and helping to make solutions permanent and sustainable by working with local professionals and governments to institutionalize them.

Job Title:
Statewide Travel Demand Modeler ($34,076.00 - $54,524.00 annually)
Summary:
The purpose of this position is to assist with the development and management of the statewide travel demand model for the State of New Mexico and coordinate with modeling efforts in metropolitan regions, perform socio-economic data collection and analysis, support freight and technical planning activities, and assist with evaluation of transportation planning projects. Ideal candidates should have advanced knowledge of travel demand modeling, statistics, and data analytical skills. Additionally, experience with transportation planning, federal regulations and professional presentations to diverse audiences are preferred.
The selected individual will play a key role in the update to the statewide travel demand model, which is being updated and upgraded to better support regional and statewide planning and project evaluation efforts.

In the News: CEE team builds 3-D model of campus to understand aging dam
Two civil engineering students built a 3-D model of Berkeley’s campus to better understand what’s going on with one of California’s many aging dams.
Katherine Cheng and Tamika Bassman, third-year CEE undergraduates, joined CEE Visiting Professor Robert Kayen, in making sure his measuring tools for scanning California's Hume Lake Dam were properly calibrated.
The team used the university landscape to figure out the best and most accurate way to manage all of the data they collected at the Hume Lake site.

Professor Alexandre Bayen partnered with computer science PhD student, Pulkit Agrawal, to design and eventually market a reliable, inexpensive computer vision technology to improve detection and risk of falls for people with Alzheimer's.
Along with team members, Julien Jacquemot, visiting scholar at UC Berkeley, and PhD student George Netscher, they saw the potential of passive vision-based sensing technology to overcome the limitations of the previous approaches.

Professor Sally Thompson has been appointed the inaugural holder of the Clare & Hsieh Wen Shen Distinguished Professorship in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
