Description

The selected candidate will have opportunities to participate in a variety of research efforts, including:

  • Experimental research studies, including initiating, designing, and conducting a variety of air pollution research studies,
  • Analytical research studies, including estimating source impacts on local air quality and community exposures, personal exposure analysis, spatial analysis, and evaluation of emissions inventories, and
  • Source apportionment and air quality modeling studies, including source characterization, land use regression modeling, and air pollution dispersion in local communities.

Candidates must have extensive experience in conducting experimental field studies, analyzing large datasets, statistical and numerical analysis, and knowledge of air quality and exposure modeling, and source apportionment tools. Strong knowledge and direct working experience with air pollution monitoring instrumentation is also desirable.

The Section is responsible for a variety of innovative research efforts, including large-scale experimental field studies using state-of-the-art tools like ARB’s state-of-the-art mobile measurement platforms, high fidelity air pollution and GHG research analyzers, and portable and low-cost air quality sensors to study real-world emission and exposure impacts of various emission sources. Some key projects include the California Statewide Methane Survey, emission flux estimation and inventory evaluation studies for local and regional GHG emission sources, personal exposure studies in commute modes and other microenvironments, community-level air pollution exposure studies with mobile and saturation monitors, and real-world on-road emission estimation from California freeways and other fleets. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to advise the agency on the impacts of adopted rules, prioritize source sectors for research and air pollution mitigating efforts, publish and present research findings at scientific venues, and build strategic research partnerships with national and international stakeholders. Some travel may be required.

Description

Principle Power Inc is looking for a Structural Engineer (marine/hull structural engineering) to join its team and help design the next generation of its floating platforms for wind turbines: the WindFloat. The candidate will be part of PPI's team of structural engineers, and will work toward commercialization of the WindFloat. The structural group splits its focus between current designs, for specific site conditions, and R&D to optimize the performance, fabrication and ultimately the cost of the WindFloats in future projects. Design tasks for current projects includes preliminary sizing of steel structures, strength, buckling and fatigue analysis and detailing of the structures. During design, engineers interface with designers to produce packages of drawings for certification and fabrication. Structural engineers follow closely the fabrication planning and execution phases to provide support as necessary.
