Read about T.Y. Lin (M.S.’33 CE), professor of civil engineering from 1946–76, who perfected the use of prestressed concrete and profoundly changed the history of building construction.

Often called the “Father of Prestressed Concrete,” Lin greatly simplified the design process for using the material, which quickly became integrated into high-rise buildings, long-span bridges, dams and other structures.

Civil Engineer (3-5yrs of experience)

Hunsaker & Associates San Diego, Inc. is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Civil Engineer with a minimum of three years of experience in private land development to join our team.

Qualified candidates will hold a BS degree in Civil Engineering (PE preferred) with a minimum of three years of progressive professional experience. Candidates must be competent in the design of grading, drainage, utility, and public improvement plans. He/She must demonstrate an understanding of the approval requirements and processes of various local, state and federal agencies. Proficiency with AutoCAD is a must. 

The candidate will report to a project manager and work with other civil engineers. Excellent communication skills and customer service are essential.

Qualifications:

·Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.

·Minimum three years design experience and background in land development.

·EIT Certification and PE preferred

·AutoCAD proficiency.

Duties:

·Preparation of preliminary/final engineering construction documents for residential and commercial projects.

·Preparation of Grading and Drainage Plans, Improvement Plans, Hydrology Studies, and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans.

Feras El Zarwi Receives Eric Pas Dissertation Award Honorable Mention

Feras El Zarwi PhD received the Honorable Mention distinction in the prestigious 2017 Eric Pas Dissertation Prize competition sponsored by the International Association for Travel Behaviour Research.

His dissertation is entitled: "Modeling and Forecasting the Impact of Major Technological and Infrastructural Changes on Travel Demand." Feras's faculty adviser is Joan Walker.

Congratulations to Feras on this high achievement. The Pas competition receives many strong dissertations.

 

Kenichi Soga and the 182-year old railway that is pointing the way to smart infrastructure

Professor Kenichi Soga outlined how the new London Bridge Station and the Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction is changing the way civil engineers approach infrastructure projects.

“It’s really about transforming the future of infrastructure through smarter information,” Soga said.
