Paid 10-week computational research opportunity for US graduate students and their research mentors to explore applications on China’s home grown supercomputer. Application areas include: Earth & Weather Systems, Advanced Manufacturing, Big Data and Machine Learning. Students spend 8 weeks in China at either the National Supercomputing Center in China, Wuxi (NSCC-Wuxi) or East China Normal University, Shanghai (ECNU-Shanghai)! Funding provided for student round trip travel to China, accommodation and meals, international health insurance and a stipend ($500 per week). Faculty mentor travel support is also available for promising collaborations.
Paid 10-week internship for undergraduate students at Michigan State University. Research areas include: computational chemistry, bioinformatics, computational biology, astrophysics, topological data analysis, machine learning, climate science, remote sensing and image processing. Funding provided for round-trip travel to MSU, accommodation and meal plan. Participants receive a stipend ($600 per week).

Congratulations to CEE alum Reginald DesRoches! Currently the Dean of the George R. Brown School of Engineering at Rice University, Dr. DesRoches will begin his new role as Provost starting July 1, 2020.
DesRoches is the highest-ranking African American in Rice history, and his appointment as Provost is particularly significant given that the campus that did not accept its first black undergraduate student until 1965.
