Video: Ashok Gadgil's research team has a fix for lead poisoning in water

By introducing a small electric current into lead pipes filled with a harmless weak phosphate solution, Professor Ashok Gadgil and his team were able to rapidly form a protective coating on the inside surfaces of corroded lead pipes.

Subsequently, after the electrodes were removed, they showed that this newly formed coating reduced the leaching of this toxic element by roughly 99%.

Replacement of lead pipes and lead connectors remains the best solution, but it also out of financial reach of most of those who need it.
